Spornia SPG 8 Net & Setup

The Spornia SPG 8 golf practice net is a top of the line product. I purchased one awhile back and have been testing various setups. Today, I had all day to evaluate the net and my launch monitor setup. Let’s take a look.

I recommend the Spornia nets. ★★★★★

What is the Spornia SPG 8?

I’ve been looking at a couple of these type of nets.

This one is a golf practice net that’s easy to setup and put away. One person can do it.

The SPG 8 model is not light. It weighs in at 36 pounds.

I thought that might be an issue as I’m a70 years old. It’s not and I can put it up easily.

What I bought

I wanted the SPG 8 because it’s bigger. Spraying the ball around the neighborhood would be frowned upon.

The Spornia net has an extension on top making it about 9.5 feet tall. You would have to hit a hard flop shot to hit it over or hit a ball off the top of your driver, etc.

I haven’t come close to hitting anything over the net. The first thing I tried was a wedge and it wasn’t close to going over.

The additional side nets are great. They give you more protection extending upward and then back to the hitting area. You attach them with Velcro tabs in several places on the existing netting.

I bought the Spornia sand bags also and haven’t used them. The sand bags are to anchor things better.

I have a bunch of plastic 5 gallon pails. They work better and aren’t messy. I fill them with water and dump out the water when done.

Hitting mats are the most important thing to purchase along with a simulator or net. However, the professional grade mats weigh a ton.

If you can set this net up and leave it up, buy a really good hitting mat.

I have to tear my net down every time I use it. So, I bought a mat off of Amazon that is pretty light. We’ll see how long it lasts.

My setup

Other stuff for Spornia setup

  • I made a computer stand from a broken tripod.
  • I bought a cheap chair
  • 32 inch TV for use as a monitor (Used from neighbor)
  • HDMI Cable to hook up the computer to the TV
  • Golf Clubs
  • Bag Stand from Amazon (Works great where there isn’t a range stand)
    • Comes with a carry bag and folds up nicely. Weighs less than one pound.
  • Titleist backpack to carry electronics to the range or for use at home.
  • Titleist RCT golf balls that work with the radar launch monitor.

Conclusion

This is perfect for me. I can set it up in front of my garage and just move most of the stuff into the garage when I’m done.

The one issue I have with the Spornia net is the bag it comes in. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice feature, but it’s a tight fit.

Plus, I added the additional side netting for protection. Now it’s really a tight fit. I leave it out of the bag.

The net folds up nicely, but you will want to find the video for folding it up.

Here is the same guy setting it up. It’s pretty easy and doesn’t take much time.

I can use it outside in warm weather.

Since I live in a cold climate, I will most likely use it in the garage for chipping and pitching until it gets too cold.

The idea there is to hang it from a rafter, folding up the bottom.

Why? I’m going to hang it from the rafter or wall because it’s 9.5 feet tall and my ceiling is 8 feet tall.

Here is a example of this or something similar as part of a review of the Spornia SPG 8.
