Getting new Grips

It was time for new golf grips. There is a wide variety out there. Today’s article is on which ones I chose and why.

It’s a great idea to refresh things regularly. Once you can notice wear on your grips, you are starting to lose performance.

A couple years ago I had two sets of clubs. One warm weather and one cooler weather as I left one set down South and one set up North.

It’s seems like for one reason or another they either disintegrate or harden up. The heat made my softer grips fall apart and cooler storage seemed to make them harden up. That’s just my opinion.

At any rate, I’m down to using one set of clubs for play and practice. The exception is I have two putters, two different grind sand wedges and a 64 degree wedge. I leave some out of the bag depending on circumstances.

The grips I chose

For my putters, I went with the Golf Pride Tour SNSR Contour 140 cc which is a pistol version made of a soft rubber blend and for the rest of my clubs I purchased the Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G which are softer and tackier. See Golf Pride for other options.

Why I chose them

So I like the softer jumbo tacky wraps for my clubs and always have. The older I get I appreciate the little bit of cushion your hands get.

The Tour SNSR Contour for my putters is very similar to what came on the putters originally only they are 140 cc. Again, they are larger for my hands and offer a soft feel. I really like these!

I usually get Winn products. It’s not that I don’t like Winn, but they don’t offer what I wanted this year. I used Winn grips for many years. Visit Winn here.

Conclusion

I’d highly recommend both of these.

I only have one issue. I use tags in the end of all my clubs to communicate with my ShotScope V3 watch. The holes in the end of the Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G grips are slightly larger than those I had before. The tags are not as tight as I would like on all the clubs. Some are and some aren’t.
