PuttOUT AirBreak

The PuttOUT AirBreak allows golfers to practice breaking putts year round indoors. You can practice uphill, downhill, left to right or right to left putts. Even double breakers. Let’s take a look.

First of all, I would recommend this product. It’s awesome. ★★★★★

The PuttOut AirBreak works with 8 points of adjustment. That is accomplished with air pumps and small airbags underneath the system.

The putting surface is 8 feet long, You can increase side slope up to 8% and up to 3% slope uphill or downhill.

The unit has a 4.25 inch diameter hole with a battery operated automatic ball return.

The unit itself folds up. It comes with an adjustable riser. You stand off to the side and can adjust the height of the riser based on your adjusted slope of the base unit.

The mat is a 10 stimp putting mat. It comes in it’s own hard sided sleeve and rolls up.

There is a retractable foam bumper that you can pull up on the end of the base unit so the ball stays in play.

More info

The PuttOUT AirBreak platform comes fully assembled. This means that on delivery all you need to do is unfold the base, unpack the pumps, unroll the mat, place it on the base and you’re good to go!

When unfolded, AirBreak is 67cm (26″) wide (the putting mat is 60cm/2ft wide) and 240cm (8ft) in length. The podium is 40cm (16″) wide and 60cm (2ft) in length.

Do not stand on the base unit. You stand on the podium off to one side. Move the podium for left or right handed golfers or for length of putt.

It is pretty easy to disassemble, fold up and put away.

There are 4 batteries in a separate compartment adjacent to the hole for the ball return.

The instruction booklet is excellent.

Finding level or slope

I’ve had to level the unit as I have an old home. It wasn’t off much, but I wanted to make sure it was flat to start.

The PuttOUT AirBreak has a green reading app for iPhone only. The app allows you to use your phone as a leveling device or to accurately change the slope.

The app needs to be calibrated on a flat surface before you use it.

It’s nice that they included the app for checking slope.

There are other clinometers + bubble level apps in the app stores for both IOS and Android.

Conclusion

It took me longer to get it out of the box than it did to set it up. Everything is built into the base unit.

You just unfold the base unit, attach the mat and place the podium at your desired location along the side of the unit.

There is a safety tab in the battery compartment that needs to be removed before the ball return will operate.

Why do I like this system?

I have several putting mats, a putting simulator and now this. So, it’s a good question.

I bought it to practice breaking, uphill and downhill putts.

In addition, all the PuttOUT accessories I have will work on this new platform.

This system has an actual hole in it with an automatic ball return.

My other PuttOUT mats fit on top of this PuttOUT AirBreak should I choose that option.

Putting Mat Comparison

I have 6 different putting mats or options inside the house.

My original intention was to purchase two. One for 10 foot putts and one for technical practice using a mirror and gates.

Over time, I’ve found better or improved mats. Here is what I’ve tried and I can’t imagine needing anything more.

What do I really use?

For the most part, I use the EXPUTT RG all the time.

My plan is to use the new PuttOUT AirBreak and PuttOUT Slim mat for technical training using putting performance analysis tools.

I do like the Wellputt mat because you can make 10 foot putts.

The PUTT-A-BOUT stays out on my enclosed front porch year round to use on nice days.

The odd man out is the PuttOUT Academy Studio Tournament Inspired mat. However, I do use the mirror, putter gate, ball gate(s) and the pressure putt trainer. (It fits on top of the AirBreak. That may be an option down the road)

Just a note. I’ve mentioned that I have the PuttOUT Academy Studio mat and accessories. They currently do not offer that setup online. It came with a large mirror, putter gate, ball gate, and a pressure putt trainer. I’ve been told by customer service that they are in the process of releasing a new mirror gate set.
