The Shot Scope X5 is a premium GPS golf watch with automatic performance tracking. Take your game to the next level.
I recently upgraded from the Shot Scope V3 to the X5. I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. Let’s take a look at it’s value.
From Shot Scope
Why X5 is the latest and greatest golf watch in 2023

- 16 x club tags for performance tracking
- Access to 100+ stats on your game post round
- 5 x watch face designs for everyday life
Design
The Shot Scope X5 is stylish on and off the golf course. It’s well made and is a serious upgrade from the V3.
I particularly appreciate the new and improved wrist band. It is more comfortable and latches securely.
The functions of the watch are similar to the V3, however the user interface is much improved.
The watch has a 1.2 inch color touch screen or a multi-function crown for navigation. There is also a back button.
You can access all the functions you need easily.
There are several different watch faces.
Distances
“Have full control on the course with every distance you need on your wrist. Our latest technology includes dynamic yardages to the front, middle and back of the green. Front and carry distances to water hazards and bunkers, plus any doglegs and layup points on a hole.”
Green View
This is something new. You get a color image of the green and can move the pin location to where is on the green and get the exact distance.
The watch comes with over 36,000 courses available.
Scoring
The Shot Scope X5 will automatically keep your score as you play a round of golf.
After you finish the hole, your score for that hole and total score will be displayed.
Touchscreen Display
The display is very durable and works well in bright light or low light.
Step Tracking
This feature is new and the watch will keep track of the number of steps you take on or off the golf course.
2nd Generation Tracking Tags
The new tags allow for more accurate shot tracking.
A significant improvement is that the tags fit grips that are curved on the end. The new tags are concave and the threaded part is a little bigger. The result is a snug fit.
The old tags were flat on the bottom. I always worried they would snap off my Golf Pride grips if I was to rough putting a club in the bag.
Note: There is an issue with the “putter tag.” I have a counterbalanced putter. There is a brass weight in the end of the putter shaft. The Shot Scope “putter tag” will not screw in all the way.
Neither Shot Scope or Odyssey mentioned anything about this.
There are 3 fixes currently.
1. Cut off most of the thread and glue the putter tag on. That is what I did with some Super Glue.
2. Manually add putts as you approach your ball on the green.
3. Add your putts manually following your round.
I’m not wild about any of the three and contacted Shot Scope and Odyssey about this.
Shot Scope is working on a better fix for the putter tag according to their customer service.
Counterbalanced putters are very popular and widely used.
Conclusion
This was a reasonable upgrade of someone like myself who already had their previous model. The price was significantly reduced.
The cost for new customers is $299. That’s not cheap.
You do get what you pay for.
There is “NO” subscription fee like some other devices have. That’s about a $100 per year value.
No subscription fee means that there is a “free” online portal to keep track of all your rounds, stats, and strokes gained.
When you “end round” the stats for the current round are uploaded to the Shot Scope website.
I edit rounds if needed using my computer. It’s easier using a mouse.
Having said that, the only thing I may have to change is pin or putt location. I believe that happens when you putt before the GPS is dialed in to your location on the green.
There are no deal breakers with the product. I recommend it and would buy it again. ★★★★★
NOTE: Shot Scope has said in a future software update they will be adding a view of the entire hole to the device. That would be in addition to the current green view.
