SKLZ: Spring Tune Up

A SKLZ Spring tune up is always in order. Swing training, grip training and a smash bag impact training work out will help to take some of the Winter rust off.

Tempo and Grip Trainer

The SKLZ tempo and grip trainer is short, has a training grip and a removable weight in the end. ★★★

A heavier setup simulates an iron weight and taking out the weight simulates a driver weight.

Practice all year inside or outside.

Smash Bag

So what is the “Smash Bag?” I use it for position at impact training. ★★★

You don’t hit it hard. I’ve seen people do that, but it seems like a great way to hurt yourself.

First you fill it full of towels or other soft items.

The idea is to simulate impact with the club head, your hands and body posture. I use a 25 percent swing or less. It’s for repetitive training.

Gold Flex

The one SKLZ product I have that I don’t use inside is the “Gold Flex.” Wait for warmer days and go outside with this one as it’s pretty long. ★★

I’ve seen ads with pros swinging it hard. I think that’s bad advertising.

Using it to warm up with a slow easy swing works well.

I usually have it in the trunk and use it along with 15 minutes of stretching to warm up before a round.

Just don’t swing it like a full send driver.
