Strackaline Green & Yardage Book

Are you looking for the best Green &Yardage book at the best price? Strackaline products are for you. I recently purchased a combo green & yardage book for my course and they are first rate.

I highly recommend these combo books and would buy one again. ★★★★★

$39 dollars for a combo book like I bought is a great deal for a great product.

So, I have a GPS golf watch that gives me front, middle and back of the green from anywhere. It also gives me layup yardages.

Why buy the combo book from Strackaline?

For additional detail and the overview format.

You still need to read the green, use the correct speed and have good putting mechanics.

Buying a green & yardage book

What do you get? Accurate detail. Every hole is four total pages.

They yardage pages fill in the blanks for things you can’t see on a GPS golf watch.

You can look at the entire hole which takes up two pages in the booklet.

I carry a pencil in my green & yardage book cover. I will be marking additional items on the yardage book.

However, they didn’t leave out much.

They are great!

The greens pages are much different than the yardage pages. They give you 3 different views of the green on two pages.

I’ll describe the green maps using my own terminology.

The first green map gives you a grid around the green indicating distance from front to back in five yard increments. It is a detailed slope map with slope in percentages and arrows for direction of slope.

I would use this one for details on breaking putts. Especially, long putts or double breaking putts.

The second green map is what I call a heat map. In other words, blue for flat, green for more slope and red for a great deal of slope. It also has more bold arrows for slope directions.

This one is great for approach shots. You can tell where you may want to land the ball in relation to the hole position.

Lastly, there is a map that includes a better view of the slope around the green as well as on the green. It’s also good for approach shots. It’s a slope and elevation map.

Size

The combo green & yardage is USGA compliant.

It’s just around 3 3/4 inches wide and 6 3/4 inches long. The combo book is about 1/4 inch thick.

Green grids are scaled to 3/8 of an inch equals 5 yards in compliance with the rules of golf.

Pros and Cons – Yardage pages

Pros – Excellent detail, very accurate. Includes elevation changes tee to green. As well as cover distances to bunkers and penalty areas. There are distance rings. A compass or direction indicator for each hole.

Cons – This is me being picky mostly. I carry a pencil and will be adding some detail. While there are clear breaks in the fairway to indicate rough or other things, the map does not indicate what that might be.

Again, I’m being picky. However, there are at least three holes where I know there is a creek, wetland or wet area and all three have bridges. They are not indicated on the map. To be fair, you can easily see there is a bridge from the tee or fairway. I’m just going to write it in or draw it in.

General Comments – I have a GPS watch and can tell the distances, but it’s really nice to have a detailed overview of the entire hole with elevation changes.

Pros and Cons – Greens pages

Pros – All three green maps are just excellent.

Cons – This is not really a con, but a warning. You may need to turn the book to understand where the front of the green is.

Example: The second hole on my course is an extreme dog leg right. The green angle from the tee is much different than it is from the lay up position at the dog leg.

The green book shows the green angle from the dog leg.

It took me awhile to figure out why they had the green turned a little. I was thinking about how it would look from the tee and not the dog leg.

I only have that issue on one hole.

General Comments – When you get to the green, you may need to turn the green map to match your location and angle to the hole. All the holes are shown from front to back. Use sprinkler heads, traps or green shape to orientate the map correctly.

Conclusion

This is just and excellent product.

They have an app as well. I hate carrying my phone on my person while I’m playing. So, I don’t use apps.

The books are great. I can carry them along in my cart bag and put it in my back pocket walking up to the green.

The one suggestion I do have is to buy a good green book / yardage book cover.

I have one the combo book fits in perfectly. It has elastic bands that hold the book tightly, an elastic closure for storage, cheat sheet pockets for slope, etc. and a pencil. I’ll include photos below.
