Training Aids: Magic! Oh Really?

Use training aids to improve your game. Improve enough that you can leave them at home and repeat the good things you have learned at the course. That’s the magic.

How many times have your heard a training aid will help shave 5 strokes off your score?

There is no such thing as a magic device that will automatically make you a better golfer.

Getting better means playing more and practicing more.

Ask yourself these questions. Does the device help me find something that will improve my game when I go to the golf course? Can I measure something with it that helps me fix my faults or cements my strengths?

Here is an example of a training aid I’ve used that helped my game and why it did.

I’ll use Blast Motion Golf as an example. Immediately I could see, based on real time data displayed in the app, that my putting stroke and face alignment at impact was all over the place.

It takes lots of continuous practice

After thousands of putts, I figured it out on my own. The changes I made were the ball placement at setup, how I gripped the putter, better physical putting mechanics and where my eyes were over the ball.

The good things that happened where a result of my seeing the data improve and lots of practice.

I’m in the position where I don’t have a professional putting instructor very close to my home. That would be my recommendation. Go see a professional putting instructor to dial in your game.

(Note: In away books and the web are training aids.)

Reading books and watching YouTube videos may be your only close resource, but there is no substitute for professional advice and training.

Books

These are just books that I have and that I would recommend.

Videos

I have several good videos. However, they are no longer available for purchase in some cases. I’ve provided links to free access online where they are available. (Note: Search YouTube for your favorite golfer or instructor and there are many more videos)
